FROM THE DIRECTORATE OF RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT/ CENTRE OF EXCELLENCE – FACILITATORS OF THE JOURNAL SERIES

The major purpose of establishing the university is to encourage and promote scholarship and research in all fields of learning and human endeavour. Universities are therefore charged with three basic functions, namely: Teaching, Research and Community Service. Research serves as the kennel that binds and nourishes the other two primary functions of the university system which are teaching and community service. Whether it be knowledge for the purpose of knowledge dissemination (teaching) or the application of knowledge to solve societal problems, such knowledge is the result of research.

The Directorate of Research and Development/Centre of Excellence was established by the Management of the University of Cross River State, UniCross, with a mandate to nurture and promote research activities of global standards in the university. UniCross journals is, therefore, a university based journal series carefully designed as a quick response to the need for harvesting new and innovative knowledge for the benefit of mankind and global competitiveness. The mission, therefore, is to facilitate and contribute to research in all disciplines within and outside the University community, thereby improving yield in terms of grants, research innovation, collaboration, publications, visibility and intellectual property. The pioneer edition floats two journals namely: UniCross Journal of Contemporary Research, JOCRES and UniCross Journal of Science and Technology, UJOST.

We are highly delighted in welcoming you to our new journal series. We have created this publication platform with the intention of providing global space for the creation of knowledge, dialogue, critique, debate, and collaboration among the international knowledge community. To achieve these, the journals are presented as open source in order to enhance visibility, excellent coverage, prompt and free access to journal articles. UniCross Journal of Contemporary Research, JOCRES and UniCross Journal of Science and Technology, UJOST shall be administered separately with separate editorial boards.

The UniCross journal series is presented with the evolving ICT trends in mind. The adoption of the e-based publication makes it possible for every researcher to be intimately connected to the global community and to be directly involved in contemporary developments and ongoing knowledge construction for a knowledge based age and economy. The journals are independent of corporate demands and the overlay of profit-making and profit-taking tendencies common with most third generation journals. The two journals, in the series, run concurrently and published online alternately at bi-monthly intervals. Printed versions shall be available twice a year with particular emphasis on originality, quality, and acceptability. To ensure competence, diversity and professionalism, two-thirds of the editorial team members are drawn from other universities.
